Prof. Gabriel Olukayode Ajayi

Professor of Biochemistry
deanspgs@mtu.edu.ngProf. Gabriel Olukayode Ajayi is a distinguished Professor of Biochemistry with over 22 years of experience in higher education as an accomplished teacher, researcher, and academic administrator.
He holds B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees from the University of Lagos and a PhD from the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), all specialising in Biochemistry.
His research is anchored in phytomedicine, natural drug discovery, medical biochemistry, and biochemical and environmental toxicology. He investigates the therapeutic potential of medicinal plants and the bioactivity of phytochemicals in managing non-communicable diseases—including diabetes, cancer, and hypertension—as well as mitigating the effects of heavy metal toxicity.
Throughout his career, he has served as Head of the Department of Medical Biochemistry at Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM) and Director of the Open and Distance Learning Centre at Mountain Top University. He currently provides leadership as the Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies, Mountain Top University, Prayer City, Ogun State.
Prof. Ajayi has authored numerous high-impact research articles in reputable international journals. He is an active member of several professional organisations, including the Nigerian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, the American Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, the British Biochemical Society, and the National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria.
Our Mandate & Functions
Review and recommend to the Senate all applications from Colleges, Faculties, and Departments for the establishment and operation of new postgraduate programmes.
Provide guidance on the interpretation and application of university regulations governing higher degrees, postgraduate certificates, and diploma courses.
Centralise and harmonise all postgraduate programmes, while managing the official timetables for teaching and examinations across all disciplines.
Manage the publication of the Postgraduate Prospectus, annual reports, and thesis abstracts, alongside creating informative materials to promote the School's initiatives to prospective students.
