Admission Requirements

To be considered for admission into any of the Postgraduate Programmes, a candidate shall satisfy the general University requirements as well as any special requirements for admission into the Programme of interest as contained in the admission requirements of individual Departments.

Postgraduate Diploma (PGD)

  • Open to candidates holding an HND or First Degree in a relevant discipline from any recognised tertiary institution.

Master's Degree (M.Sc / M.Phil)

  • Candidates must be graduates of Mountain Top University or any other university recognised by the Senate.
  • A minimum of Second Class Lower Division in a relevant field is normally required.

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D)

  • Candidates must hold both a Bachelor's and a Master's degree from Mountain Top University or an equivalent institution recognised by the Senate.
  • Direct admission into the Ph.D. requires a minimum CGPA of 4.00 on a 5.00-point scale (or equivalent 60%) in the Master's degree.
  • Candidates with a CGPA of 3.50–3.99 (55–59%) in their Master's degree may be considered for the M.Phil. / Ph.D. pathway.
  • Candidates on the M.Phil. / Ph.D. pathway who do not attain a minimum CGPA of 4.00 upon completing coursework examinations will be awarded an M.Phil. degree upon successful defence of a dissertation.
  • Candidates with professional Master's degrees are not eligible for the Ph.D. programme unless they also hold an M.Sc. in a relevant field.

Candidates below the CGPA threshold for direct Ph.D. entry may proceed through the M.Phil. / Ph.D. pathway. Successful completion leads to a Ph.D.; otherwise, an M.Phil. is awarded.
